“Cheers: Drinks for adults” Frozen Cocktails

Clare Jackson

This is it, the moment you have been waiting for: Summer!  And what’s summer without an adult get-together with your friends? And of course, those amazing summer drinks. Let’s explore some fun frozen cocktails!

Use this glass!

Margarita (Frozen)

Here is blended version of the original Lime Margarita. This version has a nice, light, sour lime taste but there are many more variations with almost any flavor you may want. If the mix is too thick once blended, add more juice: if it’s too thin, add more ice.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 1 1/2 oz tequila
  • 1/2 oz Triple Sec
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 3 oz sour mix
  • lime wedge for garnish
  • salt for rimming glass (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Pour the ingredients into a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. If desired, salt the rim of a chilled margarita glass.
  4. Pour contents into the glass.
  5. Garnish with the lime wedge.

Rock Lobster

There are a few different cocktails that use the name Rock Lobster, this one happens to be my favorite. It is a tropical blend of rums with the flavors of banana, pomegranate, coconut and orange and is delicious summer treat. Frozen drinks that are this fruity are best made with fresh pineapple and orange juices and homemade grenadine.

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 1 oz coconut rum
  • 1/2 oz banana liqueur
  • dash of grenadine
  • 1/2 ripe banana (peeled)

  • dash of orange juice
  • dark rum to top

Preparation:

  1. Pour all ingredients except the dark rum into a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour into a chilled highball glass.
  4. Top with the dark rum.

Blue Bayou

Use a Margarita glass for this drink

Blue blended booze, what more can you want? The Blue Bayou is a wonderfully refreshing frozen cocktail made with vodka and blue curaçao with the added flavors of pineapple and grapefruit. Absolutely YUMMY on a hot summer day!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 1 1/2 oz vodka
  • 1/2 oz blue curaçao
  • 1/2 cup fresh or canned pineapple
  • 2 oz grapefruit juice
  • chunk of pineapple for garnish

Preparation:

  1. Pour the ingredients into a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour into a chilled margarita glass.
  4. Garnish with the pineapple.

If the finished mix is too thick, add juice. Too thin, add ice.

Chi-Chi

use a high-ball glass for this drink

A pineapple and coconut delight for hot days, the Chi-Chi is a wonderful tropical frozen cocktail that is something a little different than the averageMargarita. A reader is also looking for a Chi-Chi recipe that was popular in the 70’s and 80’s that involves freezing the main mix overnight and adding 7-Up. If you know this recipe, please share it with us at the forum.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup ice
  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1/2 oz blue curaçao
  • 1/2 oz cream of coconut
  • 1/2 cup fresh or canned pineapple
  • scoop of vanilla ice cream
  • chunk of pineapple for garnish

Preparation:

  1. Pour all ingredients into a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour into a chilled margarita or highball glass.
  4. Garnish with the pineapple.

If the mix turns out too thick add juice; too thin add ice or ice cream.
